Top 10 Wedding Gowns of the Decade

Tuesday, December 15, 2009

As the end of the decade sneaks up on us, I wanted to honor some of the most glorious gowns I've seen over the past 10 years:

While the marriage didn't make it through the decade, this gown designed by Stella McCartney is classic enough to stand the test of time. Ivory, silk and strapless accented with a vintage lace veil was the perfect choice for Madonna's wedding to Guy Ritchie in 2000.

Vera Wang's alencon lace gown fit for a queen. Or, a pop princess. This breathtaking dress was Jessica Simpson's choice and thereafter graced many a lucky brides' wedding pictures. Even after 8 years, I'm still swooning over that sweetheart neckline...

Sex and the City brought many, many iconic fashions to America's television sets, but nothing made a bigger impact than Carrie Bradshaw's wedding gown in the movie to end an era. Vivienne Westwood combines everything every woman wants in their wedding attire. A modern spin on tradition with just enough interest for the bride to feel like one of kind, without dating the style. I fell in love the minute I saw this dress and my passion hasn't faded one bit:

If there were a wedding gown designer of the decade, in the eyes of my brides, it would have to be Monique Lhuillier. My clients love Monique so much that her designs are THE most popular gowns I have seen in my career thus far. While, it's hard to pick just one, this gown is the definition of romance and feminity that defines the Monique Lhuillier collection.

Did anyone else think Alyssa Milano's gown this year was AMAZING? I, of course, wouldn't expect anything else from Vera Wang, but she exceeded all expectations with this piece of art.

Say what you want, but to me Katie Holmes is one of the luckiest girls in the world,if for or no other reason than because of the ultra fabulous Giorgio Armani gown she wore in her wedding to Tom Cruise.

Oh, Carolina Herrera, how do I love thee...and, thankfully so do many, many of my clients and celebs alike. One of my favorite Carolina Herrera gowns of the past 10 years is this one worn by Renee Zellweger on her wedding day. Her effortless style was complete with this sophisticated yet comfortable destination gown.

Claire Pettibone has been sneaking into my heart for the past couple of years and I'm fully aware that my love affair with her designs will continue long into the next decade. Her ethereal, romantic and whimsical designs are what my dreams are made of and this gown below worn by my bride, Elaine, back in September, is the epitomy of the Claire Pettibone aesthetic.

A White House wedding is something every planner in this industry waits for and Jenna Bush did not disappoint. Her Oscar De La Renta gown was the perfect choice for her rustic, Texas wedding and has inspired brides nationwide to go for approachability and comfort on their wedding day.

While Ellen definitely had swagger in her wedding attire, it is Portia Rossi's gown that makes my heart a flutter. Sweet, feminine and sophisticated all at once, the designer, Zac Posen really knows what every bride wants.

I love this wedding dress montage! It was fun to scroll through the different styles and remember those weddings. I kind of wish I could try on dresses all over again. ;)
